Westside High school-2014 6’6 Frank Iheanacho: He was the ultimate blue-collar/junk yard. Frank puts you in the frame of a Ben Wallace style player. Rebounds out of his area, clogs up the paint with his physical presence, finishes around the basket.. Embraces contact! Tough! Good motor! He had multiple double-doubles to lead Westside to the Final Four.

Bush High School-2014 6’6 Kelly Oubre: Kelly played the best I have seen him play so far. He was aggressive from the start, his motor was consistent and he was more active defensively. He was really making shots from the perimeter as well. Kelly showed the ability to be a special player when everything is clicking for him.. He was clearly in a league of his own versus Bellaire in the Final 4.

Bellaire High school-2013 Darrin Minnefield 6’1: I guess Darrin saved his best games for last. His last 2 games of the season were the best games I have seen him play. He was aggressive, attacked the rim, showed the ability to make shots and take over a game during some stretches..

Paul is originally from Lansing, MI and went to Holt High school. He played with the Michigan Mustangs AAU team. I watched Paul during the summer before his senior year while playing AAU with the Mustangs and I thought he could have played in the Big Ten. Unfortunately, Paul had some injuries and academic setbacks which prevented him from having the success he wanted to straight out of high-school..
Paul was originally set to attend the University of Toledo out of HS but did not make it academically. Instead he attended Navarro Junior College in Corsicana, Tx and flourished under Coach Johnny Estelle. Paul averaged 13pts & 8rebs, made 1st team all-conference and 1st team all tournament as well. Paul signed with us at Binghamton in the Spring of 2009 in which he averaged 10.2 points per game, 5.8 rebounds per game.
Unfortunately, due to circumstances out of his control, Paul only stayed at Binghamton for Fall semester of 2009. During the Christmas break, Paul and I decided it was in his best interest to attend Mississippi Valley State. Sean Woods and I have a prior relationship and we felt like it was a great situation for Paul.. Paul had a productive two seasons at MVSU. He led his team to the NCAA tournament his 2011-2012 senior season. He was named honorable mention All-American by the Associated Press and the 2012 SWAC Player of the Year. Paul averaged 13.1 pts and 7.4 rebs per game, both team highs.
Paul started out playing in Uruguay for four months this season averaging 16.7pts & 8rebs. He was moved up from the team and played in Brazil for a team called Minas Tenis. He averaged 12.5pts & 6.5rebs……
In conclusion, Paul is finishing up his last classes via online and will graduate from Mississippi Valley in the Spring or summer at the latest.. Paul is a winner and has really grown/matured..

From Binghamton to Brazil!

The recruitment of Greer Wright from City College of San Francisco was very interesting. Greer had a short stint at Palm Beach Community College and landed at CCSF. Greer was not highly recruited but played on CCSF team which lost in the Final Four at the State California JC tournament, although when I watched him for the first time, I knew he would be great for our level. Fortunately, Greer was referred to me from a friend of mine, played for a great coach, and came from arguably the best JC program in the state of California. Greer is a legitimate 6’7, with ball skills, feel, good shooter, and a good athlete. Greer was 1st team All-Conference his junior season and arguably the best player in the league. He was Preseason Player of the Year going into his senior season but was hampered with an injury. Most importantly, Greer has graduated from Binghamton and is currently pursuing a professional career overseas.
Greer has played for BC Astana his first year, and he’s currently playing for Palanga in Lithuania, averaging 10pts and 5 rebs. Greer has the ability to play a long time overseas if he can stay healthy.

From Binghamton to the Big Ten

Despite Nebraska losing tonight to #1 Indiana 76-47, Dylan Talley led all scorers with 16pts and went 7-12 from the FG.. very proud of him. Has really grown/matured.. Sounds like a new person when I talk him, positive all the time..

Coach Marc Hsu

Former Binghamton star, Dylan Talley, and Freshman of the year in the American East is playing well for a Nebraska team which is surprising people in the arguably the best conference in the country this year. Despite Nebraska being in a rebuilding year, they are 12-12 and 3-8 in the Big Ten. Dylan is tied for leading scorer honors at 13.1 pts a game, second on the team in rebounds, and leads the team in Assists.. Dylan had 16 pts in a win at home over Penn State this weekend..

San Jac vs Lamar PA

San Jac vs Lamar PA JC

San Jac pulled out a comeback win yesterday over Lamar PA JC. Interim head coach Scott Jr and Albert Talley are doing a great job.

6’3 Soph Mohammad Lee was the best player on the floor. He doesn’t do anything great but does a lot of things good. Tough, good motor, defends, streaky shooter but can make shots, good feel/knows how to play, can slash and attack the basket..

5’10 Soph Danny Lawhorn showed flashes again. It seems like for every good play he makes, he’ll follow it with a questionable decision. He’s very unselfish. Jet quick, and is talented..

Lamar PA
7’0 Anthony Allen signed with the U of Ohio out of high school and red shirted at CSI last season. He showed flashes of being able to finish plays around the basketball. Not a great athlete but good enough for being a 7 footer. He’s intriguing if he has 3 yrs to play..

San Jac over Lee JC

Posted: February 4, 2013 in Uncategorized

San Jac defeated Lee by 3 yesterday. Interim coach Scott G Jr is doing a great, really getting in there ass and keeping tabs on them.

San Jac
Zach Lofton 6’4 Combo guard (may have 3 yrs)- handles the ball better than I thought. Can really score, Can make shots from the perimeter and can break u down off the dribble and score at the rim as well. Would like to see his motor a little better and take some pride in defending but he’s talented..

Tyron Marshall 6’7 (Soph)- went to Wyoming as a freshman. Did some good things last night. Finished some plays, had some big rebounds. Intrigued to watch him play again..

Bourgeois, Teris 6’5 (Soph)- athletic wing with a good motor. Can’t handle much but can make shots if his feet are set. Good in transition. Signed to New Orleans in the Fall.

Lawhorn, Danny 5’10 (Soph)- can break you down off the dribble. Not a great shooter but can make shots. Decision making is feast or famine. Always looking for home run play. Good quickness/good motor/toughness
Jones, Javaria 6’8 (Soph)- was hurt, so didn’t get to see him.. had good size

Lee
Jamal Jones 6’7 (Soph)-Ole Miss transfer played well. He’s about 6’7 long/lanky/thin and smooth. He’s a streaky shooter but can make shots. Not a great ball handler but serviceable, decent feel.. Really good in transition. Has a lot of freedom with Lee to take and make plays.

TRAHSON BURRELL 6’7 (Frosh)- he played his ass off. He was long/athletic/active and can really slash and score at the rim. He made a lot of plays

DENG DENG 6’8 (Frosh)- He didn’t play much yesterday but when I saw him last week vs Jacksonville, he was really intriguing and played well. Can go inside/out. Versatile, can do a lot..

2014 Omega Harris of Putnam City West is off to a strong year so far. He’s averaging 17 pts, 4 Asst, 4 rebs, 2.5 steals, shooting 40.6% from the FG, 35.1% from 3.. I’m sure he’s not happy about only an 8-8 start, but let’s hope they are peaking at the right time and finish the season off strong. It’s always better to start off slow and finish strong.. Omega has strong interest from many programs now and will hopefully have a strong Spring/Summer aau season.. They play Putnam City North tonight

St John’s vs Kinkaid

Posted: January 26, 2013 in Uncategorized

Last night, St Johns won 59-50 over Kinkaid. I was looking forward to the match up of Jeff Roberson vs Justice Winslow; Both top 5 2014 kids in Houston. Although Kinkaid starting the game with a 5’10 guard on Winslow, initially I thought maybe he was there best defender or maybe to save Jeff from potential foul trouble, but it didn’t seem as though any of those reasons were apparent. The kid was definitely not there best defender; Winslow toyed with him all game and effortlessly scored. Jeff is clearly there best defender/player etc. On the flip side, Winslow guarded Jeff until he picked up 2 quick offensive fouls. From the 1st play of the game, you could tell Winslow was the aggressor and was going to look to attack/score. It seemed as though Winslow either scored or assisted on all 59 of St John’s points. Winslow finished with 35 and Roberson 12

St John’s 2014 6’6/6’7 Justise Winslow: Lefty, can go inside/out. Can drive slower bigs and will post smaller defenders. Streaky shooter but can make shots. Athletic, makes plays with the ball, good feel, good rebounder. Mis-match nightmare..
-Norm Roberts from Kansas was in attendance for Winslow
Kinkaid 2014 6’6/6’7 Jeff Roberson: I’ve seen him play better, it wasn’t his night. He defers way too much, needs to be more aggressive, & confident in himself to make plays with the ball. Again, showed some flashes of good ball skills, but need to see more consistency. He has a lot left in tank, which he’s not getting yet..

Kinkaid vs Westbury Christian

Posted: January 24, 2013 in Uncategorized

Last night I watched Kinkaid HS defeat Westbury Christian, 65 to 54.

2014 Kinkaid 6-6 Jeff Roberson: I have watched Jeff play a couple times this season. I think it’s unfair to Jeff for me to give an accurate evaluation, when he’s playing the 5 with his HS team. He’s committed to do or play whatever position he needs to, in order to help his team win and there’s a lot to be said about that. It’s evident, he has a great body & he’s a good athlete. He showed flashes of good ball skills when given the opportunity but I’d like to see him play more on the perimeter with other good players around him, to get a more accurate feel for his perimeter game. He definitely has a good feel and seems like a great kid. I hear Alabama, Vanderbilt, Stanford among others are showing interest.

2015 6’3 CJ Simmons: He has good pop in his game. I liked his quickness and ability to get to the basket. Played within himself and with pause. I heard he was a good shooter, but he looked streaky last night. Long and lanky, looks as though he will definitely be growing some more..

2015 5’10 Westbury Christian Galen Robinson: He turned it over & made some questionable decisions with the ball. But I guess that’s expected from a Soph point guard starting on Varsity. He has a knack for scoring and can break you down off the dribble. Not a great shooter, but can make shots. He’s very confident in himself and plays with an unconscious mentality.
